Superior Health Council (SHC)
The Superior Health Council is the scientific advisory body of the Federal Public Service Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment. It forms a bridge between the Belgian authorities and the scientific world in all public health related issues.
Thanks to its vast network of experts, the Council provides advisory reports and recommendations that are objective, independent and scientifically based. It does so on request or on its own initiative.
The Superior Health Council is competent for all matters related to public health. This is especially true for the following areas:
Mental health: behaviour, addictions, psychosocial factors in public health, training professionals, psychotherapy, etc.
Physical environmental factors: ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation, noise, etc.
Chemical environmental factors: chemical agents, pollutants, biocides, pesticides, etc.
Nutrition and health, including food safety: novel foods, food additives, dietary guidelines, food microbiology, etc.
Biological factors: blood and blood derivatives, cells, tissues and organs of human and animal origin, banks for human bodily material, infectiology, infection control during care, vaccinology, etc.
