Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP)
In consideration of the global agreements, the Commission proposed a regulation which was approved at first reading and published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 31 December 2008: Regulation 1272/2008, known as the CLP Regulation.
As a result, from 20 January 2009, those responsible for substances and mixtures have been able to apply the new system proposed (Regulation 1272/2008) as a replacement for the existing system (European Directives 67/548 and 1999/45). The old and new systems will coexist for a transitional period that will come to an end in December 2010 for substances and in June 2015 for mixtures.
For an overview, see the brochure 'Chemical products: protect yourself, read the label!' (only in french, nederlands and german).
