Maybe you are soon going to travel abroad. But to go discovering another country is not always without risk. What are the preventive measures to take ? Is your vaccination cover still up to date ? Do you know which are the sanitary risks linked to your destination ?
It is in order to answer to those questions that the Federal Public Service Health, Food Chain Security and Environment keeps an updated list of registered travel medical centres.
Within the frame of its international obligations, Belgium has to apply and enforce respect of the World Health Organization (WHO) international sanitary rule. It is the ICM directorate that is in charge of that mission within the Federal Public Service.
This rule foresees amongst others the registration of centres in charge of vaccine administration against yellow fever, this vaccine being required in certain countries.
Mechanic vaccination against yellow fever is insufficient to guarantee optimal risk management for travellers. That is why conventions have been agreed upon with a certain number of centres that provide such a service. They also have to be able to insure the follow-up of patients back from their trips.
Registered centres apply travel medicine recommendations approved by the “Conseil supérieur d’Hygiène” (Health Council) and updated on a yearly basis.
