EBNS : Green economic recovery – Reshaping business for nature and people

This European Summit is a place to showcase businesses that understand the critical value of nature for their business and take action to develop and adapt business models taking into account biodiversity and contributing to rebuild ecosystem health, but also to stimulate and encourage other businesses to engage with a wide European public in the fight against biodiversity loss.

A virtual space to discuss the interconnections between business and nature   
 
In light of countries’ efforts to handle the Covid-19 crisis and overcoming its economic impacts, more than ever, there is a need and an opportunity for businesses to reconsider their relationship with nature and people. To rebuild their resilience and thrive in the long term, businesses must embark on a green recovery. As emphasised in the EU Recovery Plan and the new EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, boosting society’s resilience and preventing the emergence and spread of future virus outbreaks can only be achieved by protecting and restoring biodiversity and natural ecosystems. Biodiversity and natural capital considerations need to be better integrated into business decision-making at all levels. Businesses have a crucial role to play in this recovery!   
 
Building on the successes of the 2019 conference held in Madrid, this year the EBNS will be  a fully virtual event designed and organised by the EU B@B Platform of the European Commission in cooperation with the Belgian federal and Flemish government, The Shift, and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).   

Who is this event for?

This virtual event welcomes businesses of all sizes – from SMEs to large corporations and financial institutions with a long-term mindset, including those that are less familiar with the issues of biodiversity. It will bring together businesses, EU and Member State representatives, local and regional public authorities, civil society representatives and academics for two days of stimulating discussion, knowledge exchange, and networking opportunities. 
 
What to expect?
 
You have the opportunity to join the EBNS in an exciting virtual format while it will maintain its traditional mix of showcasing best practice examples by participating businesses (including SMEs) and financial institutions and business initiatives that aim at integrating natural capital and biodiversity into the corporate decision making. You will also learn about the latest policy responses from the European Commission to support businesses develop and adapt business models that contribute to rebuilding ecosystem health and preventing biodiversity loss.
 
The EBNS will furthermore provide:  

  • A place to showcase businesses that understand the critical value of nature for their business and take action to develop and adapt business models that contribute to rebuilding ecosystem health; 
  • An opportunity to learn the latest advances in accounting for impacts and dependencies on nature that enable business to increase their resilience towards future shocks; and 
  • Expand your network by taking part in the "Corridor Talks”;  
  • An opportunity to engage with a wide European audience in addressing biodiversity loss.
