Underwater radiated noise is an underexposed but serious threat to the marine environment with shipping being one of the major sources.

Therefore, a webinar on tackling underwater noise from shipping took place on Tuesday 30 March. This webinar was organised by the FPS Health, the FPS Mobility and Transport and the Royal Belgian Shipowners' Association, on the initiative of the Minister for the North Sea, Vincent Van Quickenborne.

After an explanation of the problem by Oceancare and IFAW, a number of possibilities for efficient solutions were presented by TNO and Transport Canada. The efforts made are not only beneficial for underwater noise, but also for NOx-, SO2- and CO2-emissions.
