Nutritional needs of patients with cystic fibrosis

Patients with cystic fibrosis have specific nutritional needs due to their disease. Care should be taken to ensure that they receive enough energy and protein. They also have a greater need for minerals and fat-soluble vitamins.

Dietary adjustment alone is not enough to meet these specific needs. The Superior Health Council therefore recommends the use of "foods for special medical purposes”. These are special foodstuffs that are registered with the FPS Public Health and are only to be used under medical supervision. This advisory report provides further explanation on the main concerns.
