Good quality of the indoor air is very important for good health, especially in times where our buildings are increasingly more airtight. Besides, did you know that we spend more than 85% of our time indoors on a daily basis?
There are different reasons for poor quality of indoor air: open furnaces, pets, certain printers, temperature and air humidity, certain furniture, moulding on the walls, paint, cleaning products, etc. Building products can also be a source of harmful substances.
Ventilation is the act of removing polluted air and getting healthy air indoors. In other words, proper ventilation is indispensable. Wouldn't it be better to try to have less polluted air inside? That is why the Federal Public Service of Health, Safety of the Food Chain and the Environment tries to reduce the sources of hazardous substances as much as possible.
Floor covering
In 2014 a Belgian legislation will ensure that less hazardous substances can be emitted from floor covering products and the glues for these products. This legislation ensures that all manufacturers must evaluate their products and that these products must meet some minimal health related requirements.
We will also take a close look at the wall cladding and ceiling covering in the following years.
