On 22/03, Ilse Derluyn participated in the breakoutsession on Refugees and trauma. The subject of her presentation was Mental health of refugees, with a particular focus on young refugees: prevalence and possible interventions.

Migrating from one country to another evokes lots of challenges with a possible strong mental health impact. In this presentation, Ilse Derluyn will, at first, present the results of the ERC-ChildMove project, demonstrating the complex and long-lasting mental health impact of experiences before, during and after the migration journey for young, unaccompanied refugees and migrants. Building onto these findings, recommendations for policy and practice will be discussed, and she will present the possibilities of school-based, preventive mental health interventions for young migrants and refugees as developed in the H2020-RefugeesWellSchool-project.
