The Scientific Committee and Scientific Panels

 

The Scientific Committee and the Scientific Panels are composed of independent scientists from universities, research institutions and national food safety authorities. They are responsible for the EFSA’s risk assessment work and delivering independent scientific opinions in the fields of food and feed safety.

The EFSA’s Scientific Panels cover following areas : plant health, GMO, food additives and nutrient sources, food contact materials, enzymes and flavourings, feedstuffs, animal health and welfare, plant protection, contaminants in the food chain, biological hazards, dietetic products and allergies, novel foods and nutrition.

Experts can sit on the EFSA’s Scientific Committee and Panels for a three-year mandate. They are appointed through an open and transparent selection procedure on the basis of proven scientific experience and independence.
