Saniport agents represent the FPS Public Health at the airports and ensure compliance with international obligations to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union.
Among other things, they are responsible for:
- checking disinsectisation of aircrafts from countries with risk of vector-borne diseases;
- destroying luggage containing perishable food;
- isolating individuals/groups who are suspected or found to have an infectious disease. To this end, there is close cooperation with Flanders;
- Processing of International permit to transport human remains.
As the national point of contact for contact tracing, Saniport also requests passenger lists for analysis. After that, Saniport transfers the information to the relevant regions and international partners for processing.
