At the request of the World Health Organisation (WHO), a study on the concentration of the various POPs in breast milk was undertaken over the entire Belgian territory in 2014.

The objective was twofold:

1.  to check the extent to which environmental pollutants are found in the human body
2.  to allow assessing the effectiveness of reduction measures that were taken internationally and at the European level
The conclusions of this study are available on the website of the Belgian National Environment and Health Action Plan (NEHAP).

Breast milk still continues to be the best feed for infants. It contains several nutritional elements that help in their development.
