The EAS systems fall under multiple European directives: the European R&TTE directive (R&TTE stands for 'Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment'), the low-voltage directive 2006/95/EC and the directive 2004/108/EC for electromagnetic compatibility.

These directives require that the EAS system does not result in a risk for the health and safety of the user and of other people and does not cause electromagnetic interferences. For more information about these directives, please check the section “Standardisation of electromagnetic radiation”.

The manufacturer needs to test his products to make sure that they meet all criteria. The threshold values and the measurement procedure are described in the European standard EN 50364 and are harmonised under the R&TTE directive and the low-voltage directive. You can peruse this standard at the Belgian Institute for Standardisation.

The compliance of this regulation is checked by the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunication (BIPT) and by the FPS Economy, SMEs, Self-Employed and Energy.
