Event : Vaccination of immunocompromised or chronically ill children and/or adults

The new vaccination guidelines for immunosuppressed patients were highlighted during a Seminar of the Superior Health Council.

The new vaccination guidelines for immunosuppression were published on the 10th of October 2019 and highlighted during a seminar in Brussels.

On this occasion, the 170 experts, that gathered for this afternoon session at the South Tower, were informed about the new vaccination guidelines for children and adults, taking immune suppressive drugs, under chemotherapy, after organ transplantation, after stem cell transplantation, infected with human immunodeficiency virus, or with an underlying chronic disease (p.ex renal dialysis, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,…).

Two international experts (Dr Gilles Epéron from Geneva Switzerland and Dr Albert Vollaard from Amsterdam, the Netherlands) presented their respective experiences with immunosuppressive drugs and vaccination.

The SHC thanked the expert group for supporting in this large demanding project that took more than 2,5 years of work and applauded the fruitful collaboration.

This seminar was organized by the Superior Health Council in close collaboration with the writing group of this SHC guideline (members of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp, UZ Gent, UZ Leuven, St Pierre Hospital Brussels, Erasme Hospital Brussels, St Luc Hospital Brussels and Jessa Hasselt).
